Effective 9 October 2026 · Version 1.0
Video and optional audio stay on your phone unless you export them. Optional location and mobile-network measurement collection is separate from recording. Cloud contribution requires a further, separate choice. Shared measurements include precise routes and are not anonymous. Cloud contributions do not include video or audio.
1. Who we are and what this covers
The Shiny Turtle Apps Pty Ltd (ACN 703 044 633; ABN 30 703 044 633), Australia, is responsible for the practices described here. This policy covers company enquiries and the Android version of Delightful Dashcam. Other apps or platform versions may need additional privacy notices describing their particular features.
Our working privacy contact is activegood421@gmail.com. We will update this page when a dedicated company mailbox becomes available.
If you contact us, we receive the information you provide, such as your name, email address, message and any attachments. We use it to respond, provide support, handle privacy requests and keep necessary business records. Please do not send passwords or unnecessary sensitive information.
Visiting this privacy page
This page is hosted using OpenAI Sites and its hosting infrastructure, including Cloudflare. Hosting providers process technical request information such as IP address, browser information and access times to deliver and secure the page. The page itself has no advertising, analytics scripts, contact form or app-measurement collection. Following a link to another website is subject to that website’s practices. Email enquiries are handled through Google Gmail. Provider information is available in the OpenAI privacy policy, Cloudflare privacy policy and Google privacy policy.
2. Information used on your phone
Video, audio and driving features
Delightful Dashcam uses the camera when you start a recording or when an automatic mode you have armed detects driving. Microphone recording is optional and off by default. Camera access can remain active while automatic mode is armed. Camera, optional microphone and location access can continue while the recording service runs in the background or the screen is off. A foreground-service notification identifies the running service.
With permission, precise location, speed, direction and location accuracy support driving detection, trip information and captions. Saved videos may contain coordinates and speed in their captions. Accelerometer measurements support motion and possible-impact detection; an event can protect clips and save an incident timestamp. This does not confirm a collision.
Optional Bluetooth automatic-start checks use Nearby devices permission to check the connection to your selected paired audio device. The device name and address stay in local settings and are excluded from measurement contributions. This feature does not scan for other Bluetooth devices, make calls or read contacts. The experimental camera-visibility check analyses small frames locally while automatic mode is armed; those analysis frames are not saved or uploaded.
Optional measurement collection
Separate, optional measurement logging is off by default. If enabled, it records precise location and time, speed and direction, location quality, carrier and network context, mobile signal strength and quality, service and data-connection states, measurement ages, and missing or stale-data indicators. App and operating-system versions, manufacturer/model and available radio-firmware information help interpret differences between phones.
Records include a random trip reference and observation sequence, plus Android subscription context. These are not telephone numbers, IMEI or IMSI identifiers. The collector does not access contacts or call history, monitor call content, or run speed tests. Repeated location records can reveal journeys and places visited even without your name.
Observations are generally recorded every three seconds while confidently moving, at session boundaries and when relevant network or data-quality changes occur. Gaps and unavailable readings are recorded as such. Measurements relate to the active mobile network, not all carriers at once.
Local settings and exports
Preferences, consent choices, local counters and reminders are stored on the phone. The reviewed Android version has no advertising or analytics SDKs, enabled tip payments or user-account registration. When you export a clip using Android sharing, your chosen recipient or app receives that copy, potentially including audio and location captions. Their handling is governed by their own practices.
4. Retention and deletion
On your phone
Unprotected videos are recycled according to the storage allowance you select. Protected clips remain until removed; a full protected allowance may stop recording. You can delete clips in Clips and measurement logs in Settings. Deleting measurement logs does not delete video/audio or basic trip summaries. Clearing Android app storage or uninstalling removes app-private data, but not copies exported to other apps or recipients.
Contributed measurements
Uploaded raw measurement records have no fixed automatic expiry. We retain them long term while reasonably needed for the research and development purposes above. We review continued need periodically and take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify personal information when it is no longer needed, subject to applicable legal retention requirements. We may retain genuinely de-identified statistics and research outputs for longer. Removing a name or replacing an identifier alone does not make a precise journey anonymous.
Our AWS upload-processing logs are configured for seven-day retention without deliberately logging measurement payloads. Your support correspondence may be retained while needed to resolve requests, document decisions and meet legal obligations.
Turning off sharing or deleting local data does not delete uploaded copies. To request access, correction or deletion of contributed data, email our privacy contact with the data reference displayed in the app's Settings. Keep that reference before uninstalling or clearing app storage. Do not send a password. We may request proportionate information to verify that the request relates to your data, and will explain any limitations, legal exceptions or inability to locate particular records. The pilot has no in-app cloud deletion button.
5. Security and your controls
Local files use Android app-private storage and the app excludes its data from Android backup/device transfer. It is not a separate encrypted vault. Keep your device secured. No storage or transfer method can be guaranteed completely secure.
You can stop recording from the app or its notification, revoke permissions through Android settings, stop optional collection, and separately stop cloud sharing. Disabling a feature may affect functionality that depends on it. The app does not begin recording automatically after reboot; force-stopping it pauses background uploads until reopened.
6. Questions, requests and complaints
Contact the Privacy Contact at activegood421@gmail.com, stating that your enquiry concerns The Shiny Turtle Apps or Delightful Dashcam. Explain your request and include the relevant app version and data reference if available. We aim to respond to privacy complaints within 30 days, or explain if more time is needed.
If you are dissatisfied with our response, you can seek guidance from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. Its ability to investigate depends on the circumstances and applicable law.
7. Changes
We update this policy when relevant practices change and publish the current version here. Material changes to collection, sharing or purposes will be explained in the app, and additional consent obtained where required before those changes take effect. This policy is not blanket consent to unrelated future uses.
